Frequently Asked Questions about the Inn and surrounding areas

 

The Inn is located in the Wissahickon Valley of Fairmount Park.

The restaurant housed in the Inn is a privately owned and operated business.

The Valley Green Inn (the building) is owned by the City of Philadelphia.

Rent is paid to the Friends of the Wissahickon. The funds remain within the Wissahickon Valley for various projects including; reforestation, education, trail repair, general upkeep of the surrounding area including the Inn.

Dress code is "smart casual" for dinner and holidays.  Brunch and lunch are comfortable casual.  We understand many of you like to enjoy the Inn after a bike ride or hike.

The Valley Green is a smoke-free facility.

We accept all major credit cards and cash.  We do not accept personal or business checks for a la carte dining.

We allow well-behaved dogs on our outside patio directly in front of our porch.  We have treats and water available for your dog. 

The Inn has central air-conditioning throughout the dining rooms and bar area. 

Saturday evenings, Sundays, and any day between 12-1:30pm are our peak hours.  Since all of our food is prepared to order, there may be a slightly longer wait during peak times.  Be patient, enjoy the atmosphere and experience.

The fireplace is indeed a "working fireplace".  We operate it from November through March when the weather is below 45 degrees. 

The Inn is open 365 days a year. (Open for Brunch on Christmas day)

Parking is allowed *only* in the 2 parking lots by the Inn (Forbidden Drive along the Creek) and on Valley Green Rd. (there is additional parking throughout the Wissahickon Valley at numerous locations including Bell's Mill Road & Lincoln drive) 

There are no facilities which rent horses in the Wissahickon Valley.

There is a horse-drawn carriage available for any special affair!  On nice weekends, the carriage will be seen in the Wissahickon Valley. 

Public Bathrooms are located directly next to the Inn. (as well as a public pay phone) 

The Valley Green Inn has it's own fully ADA-compliant facilities.

Cell phones do not work in the Valley Green area. (extremely spotty service at best)

The ducks which live in the Valley Green area are not the same ducks on our menu.

The Valley Green Inn does not have a street address.  Our address is Valley Green Road At Wissahickon, Philadelphia PA  19128.

Public transportation is available within a 1/2 mile walk.  The R8 rail line is the closest to the Valley Green.  (St. Martins 1/2 mile walk)  Bus transportation is available from Roxborough via Septa Route 27 (Wise's Mill rd./3/4 mile walk) OR Chestnut Hill via Septa Route 23 (Springfield Ave. 2 mile walk).  There are blue Valley Green signs on both Germantown and Henry Avenues right before the stops.

The Parking lot closest to the Inn is for patrons of Valley Green onlyAll others are encouraged to park in alternate locations.  On occasion, the lot is closed to the general public due to large affairs at the Inn. 

Parking is no longer permitted on the South side of the Valley Green Inn.

The trail in front of the Inn is 7 miles long extending from Montgomery county to the Schuylkill River.

It takes approximately one hour to walk from Bell's Mill road to the Valley Green Inn.

Fairmount Park closes at 1am.

The Valley Green is within the 92nd Police district. 215-686-9972

The Snack bar is open 7 days a week from Memorial day through Labor Day.  It is open on weekends throughout the rest of the year and on nice days.

This is the same building as on the print/painting at your local art gallery.

We cannot guarantee the weather.  We can however, guarantee with a 99% probability, the inside of the restaurant will be cool in the warm weather months and warm in the cool weather months.
